Written way back in 1998, this was my first attempt at writing a more modern tune for one of my favourite traditional hymns (something I have since done several more times).

Whilst I was wary of tinkering with a song so beloved of churchgoers all over the world (along with Welsh rugby fans) it was selected by TEMA Mission for their youth congress in 2002, and has subsequently gone on to be used in churches all over the world … to the extent that I stumbled across an order of service online that was produced by a small church in Arkansas and featured this version as the reflective song following the message.

Based on my CCLI returns it has been one of my most used songs over the years.

It was originally recorded for my solo CD I Will Follow, and theREIGN included a live version as a bonus track on their debut album Sing.

This updated version was recorded for one of St Barnabas Church’s Sunday services while the UK was still under COVID restrictions in June 2021.
