Psalm 139 has always been one of my favourites, so it was an obvious candidate to be the first I wrote based entirely on scripture. I was so pleased with the result (once I sussed out that it was much better suited for Kathryn’s voice than my own) that it took its place as the second track on I Will Follow.

Like I Sought You Lord, it was written in 2000, while I was working in Leicester, and ths inital demo of me singing both lead and vocal prompted the then very young Joel and Beth to comment that there were “a hundred Daddys singing”.

The song began my long love affair with writing in the key of G/Em (I’m a baritone, what can I say) and lends itself perfectly to the delicate finger-picking of Phil Gray which adorned the original.

The 2001 album recording is available from the mp3 download page on the site, and the version below was recorded in 2020 as part of our “Song of the Day” offer to one of the churches we support locally.

Please enjoy,
